Sake Barrels by Pajunen Sake Barrels by Pajunen
Sake barrels at Meiji Shrine, Tokyo Japan

The barrels are donated to Meiji Shrine and they are not full of rice wine. Near a Shinto shrine, such barrels are called kazaridaru, which means “decoration barrels.”

This is amazing.  So it is actually set up outside like this.  At first I thought, "Is it a photo manipulation?"  This is really stunning.  I wish one day to see it myself.  Beautiful work!

Thanks! Yes, they are empty sake barrels, just for decoration purposes. There are also empty wine barrels nearby.
